But some are, and for those types of concerns, it’s so helpful to have safe, simple and effective skincare solutions on hand for whenever you need them. In the case of skin that is easily irritable, your best bet is to rely on simple, high quality, cold pressed and organic carrier oils. The reason? Depending on the oil you use, they basically have everything your skin needs to calm down- and stay that way.

One of the best, easiest to find and extremely gentle oils for this is jojoba. This beautiful golden lipid is almost identical to your skin’s own natural sebum, and as a result it is readily and easily utilized upon application. Many times people with irritable skin have their issue as a result of skin that is not properly nourished or otherwise out of balance. Jojoba is great in that it helps to rebalance your skin’s own natural oil production while also delivering nourishing essential fatty acids and antioxidants like vitamin E. People with skin that is either too oily or too dry will love jojoba as it works to fix both issues and bring skin back to a state of beatiful balance.

Raw African shea butter is another fantastic oil for helping irritable skin. It is especially calming and balancing for those with flaky and thirsty skin, as well as skin that could use some protection from the elements. While it is certainly a very rich botanical butter, shea butter is actually non-comedogenic, meaning it doesn’t clog pores! If you find that your skin is always thirsty, easily reddened and otherwise bothersome, raw shea butter would be an awesome addition to your skincare routine.

Tamanu oil is another fabulous oil for soothing irritable skin, and it can be used on both the face and the body with phenomenal results. It is a deeply nourishing and moisture rich oil with a smooth glide and seriously luscious texture that makes it the perfect body oil. If you find your skin is finicky, dry and/or sensitive, tamanu is a great tropical treat for your skin.

If you’re not sure where to start, we recommend going the gentle and easy route and starting with jojoba oil. From there, you can branch out and see if your skin prefers a different oil. Of course, you can’t go wrong with shea butter or tamanu either, but jojoba is a great basic place to start for those who need some initial introduction into the world of oils for skincare.

Thirsty skin…it’s one of the most aging things for your face, and also one of the easiest to fix! Having thirsty skin just means that it’s in need of more hydration and moisture. While it can be easy to confuse skin that needs more water with skin that needs more oil, one of the easiest ways to forgo this simple issue is to give the skin moisturizing oils that also hydrate the skin. While there are some other ingredients that are hydrating that aren’t oils, if you aren’t sure which one your skin truly needs, just go ahead and use a hydrating oil.

We wax poetic about this private label skincare oil all the time, and while you might be tired of hearing about it we couldn’t allow ourselves to not mention it here: jojoba oil. This perfectly balancing golden oil of the desert helps to quench thirsty skin by delivering an easy to absorb array of essential fatty acids that lubricate and moisturize the skin. It also has an adaptogenic effect on the skin whereby it helps your skin produce the correct amount of oil for its needs- pretty cool! By keeping the cellular membranes properly lubricated, cellular water loss is mitigated and prevented, in turn keeping the skin hydrated and moisturized at the same time.

Another thirsty skin quencher that we love, and that you may not have known about, is actually rose essential oil! Yes, this very special and concentrated petal elixir is extremely hydrating to the skin. It helps to improve the skin’s resiliency and mitigate cellular water loss, resulting in happy and plump skin cells that translate into happy and pleasantly plump looking skin. It also delivers a beautiful rosy glow that compliments its natural smoothness.

Botanical hyaluronic acid is a great natural thirsty skin quencher that isn’t a plant oil. Basically what it does is go into the skin and hold up to 1000x it’s own weight in water- talk about hydration! This is an absolutely fabulous way to help prevent and combat cellular water loss on a level that is seriously huge and effective. It also pulls moisture to itself from the environment surrounding it, but it does this in a way that adjusts to the amount needed by the skin based on what is available outside of it. Private label skincare lovers use this hydrating ingredient for its quickly noticeable effects on their skin- namely a soft, dewy glow.

And there you have it folks! Three of the best, most accessible thirsty skin quenchers to help your skin stay hydrated.

When it comes to moisturizing products, there are typically three different types you can find: lotions, butters and creams. Each has its own unique and specific set of traits that make it a desirable product to use depending on what you are looking for. But what exactly are these traits, and what is the reasoning behind having these different types of products that are all typically geared toward a similar goal?

Usually, the difference between a lotion, cream and butter for the skin is texture and amount of lipid-based moisture that gets delivered. Lotions tend to have the most water- hence their thin texture. Creams come next, and are then followed by butters. Private label skincare shoppers usually go for lotions and creams when shopping for their face, while butters seem to be relegated more to the realm of the body. However, there is more to deciding which type of skincare product you want than texture and perceived moisture delivery alone!

Like any and every private label skincare product you find, you want to look at the entire ingredient deck if possible to make sure that it’s the right product for you. A body butter that seems like it would be full of moisture might actually be full of cheap fillers and petroleum based ingredients that don’t actually do anything good for your skin. So, be sure to look for plenty of effective and natural active ingredients like plant lipids (shea butter, coconut oil, olive oil squalene, etc.), and even other actives that help your skin in addition to the moisture it receives from the butter, like vitamin C or green tea extract.

This is even more important if you are purchasing an anti aging cream or lotion for your face. Make sure that ingredient deck is full of truly effective anti aging ingredients like vitamin C, plant peptides and astaxanthin; it’s the only way to get your money’s worth. Additionally, if you can, try a sample of the product to make sure you like the texture. Just because it’s marketed as a cream doesn’t mean it will be the same as every other cream you’ve tried and liked.

Some people switch between a lighter lotion in the summer and heavier cream or butter in the winter as their skin’s needs adapt to the weather. Do what works for you and don’t be afraid to experiment.
