Yuzu essential oil is a gem in the essential oil world. Its aroma is a delightful blend of citrus and sweet with the perfect amount of floral undertone. Everything from soaps and scrubs to body oils and bath salts could easily be taken from nice to full on delicious with the addition of Yuzu. In aromatherapy it relaxes the nervous system and rejuvenates the body, and the Japanese have even made a practice of adding Yuzu fruits to a hot bath so that one may soak in the invigorating smell while the body and mind relax and let go of tension and pain. It is a true favorite for us among our citrus oils collection.

The sweet, floral scent of Ylang Ylang is also a de-stressor and antidepressant, relaxing both the body and the mind. It drives away sadness and induces feelings of joy and love. As a matter of fact, Oriental medicine considers Ylang Ylang to be a calming heart tonic. Ylang Ylang’s smell is so popular that it has been included in some of the worlds most famous perfumes, and is a wonderful oil to include in your own blends. It goes especially well with oils like Sandalwood or Lemongrass, but can just as easily be used on its own.

Our Green Yarrow Essential Oil is steam distilled from the Achillea Millefolium (yarrow) plant, a member of the Asteraceae family which also includes Chamomile and Echinacea. It grows wild in plains and open forests, and is also sold as an attractive variety by many plant nurseries. Yarrow has a prominent position in the history of medicinal herbs. It is even mentioned in Homer’s Iliad when yarrow is given to Achilles by Chiron, the centaur who trains him in the arts of war. He teaches Achilles how to use yarrow as a wound salve for the soldiers he commands.

Its mellow aroma is mossy and sweetly herbaceous. In skin care, Yarrow is an effective astringent. It works to tone skin, reduce pore sizes, and can help balance out overly oily complexions. The refreshing, clean taste of wintergreen has made it a favorite in flavoring numerous products. Thyme essential oil has been in use since the time of the Romans. Both red and white thyme oils are manufactured commercially and are in products ranging from cough drops to perfumes. White thyme oil is made by re-distilling red thyme oil. Red thyme oil has a higher amount of phenols, which the oils are prized for, but is more expensive than white thyme oil.

White thyme essential oil contains phenols that have antimicrobial properties, which can inhibit growth of bacteria, fungi and viruses. While these antimicrobial properties exist, they are not foolproof, according to the results of a study published in the October, 2008 issue of “Meat Science.” The thyme essential oil in the study only inhibited E. coli at certain concentrations and temperatures, reveals study author N. Solomakos.

The phenols found in white thyme essential oil also have invigorating and warming properties, according to the All 4 Natural Health website. The oil can be used topically in a liniment or utilized to boost blood circulation, according to the Intekom website. Such a boost enhances nutrient and oxygen delivery in the body.

Camphor comes from a tall, handsome evergreen tree in China with many branches bearing clusters of small white flowers followed by red berries. The crude camphor oil is collected from trees in crystalline form, and the essential oil is produced by steam distillation from the wood, root stumps, and branches and then rectified under vacuum and filter pressed to produce three fractions known as white, brown and yellow camphor, with white camphor being the one used for aromatherapy.

Camphor Oil Uses – Camphor essential oil is often used for depression, insomnia, shock, respiratory problems, oily skin and pains. Apply immediately in cold compress to reduce swelling of bruises and sprains. Camphor has a strong, penetrating, fragrant odor, and is slightly cold to the touch like menthol leaves. Locally it is an irritant, numbs the peripheral sensory nerves, and is slightly antiseptic. It is not readily absorbed by the mucous membranes, but is easily absorbed by the subcutaneous tissue. It combines in the body with glucuronic acid, and in this condition is voided by the urine. Authorities vary as to its effect on blood pressure; some think it raises it, others take an opposite view, but it has been proved valuable as an excitant in cases of heart failure, whether due to diseases or as a result of infectious fevers, such as typhoid and pneumonia, not only in the latter case as a stimulant to circulation, but also as preventing the growth of pneumococci.

Vetiver essential oil is distilled from the roots of the Vetiver plant, and its cooling and slightly musky scent has been a favorite in the perfume industry for years. It is said to be relaxing to the mind and nervous system, and has long been considered an aphrodisiac- party because it is so good at dissolving nervous tension! Vetiver also has antiseptic qualities, and is used often for this purpose throughout India, where the humid heat provides a veritable breeding ground for infections. As an anti inflammatory agent, Vetiver has a cooling effect on external irritations, and also helps to eradicate the appearance of scars and other marks from the skin. It promotes the formation of new and fresh tissue, and for this reason can also be used on stretch marks, burns and even pock marks. It is lovely used alone, or in conjunction with other oils.
