Limes have a long history of use, and their origins hail back to ancient Babylonia. They were so coveted that sailors carried their seeds with them across the sea, spreading this sweet medicinal fruit from South East Asia all the way to the Americas. Traditionally used to treat scurvy on long voyages, limes were also used to soothe digestive complaints and sore muscles. Today, Lime essential oil reduces anxiety and mental fatigue, as well as helping to lift depression and stress. It acts as a toning astringent for the skin, and must be used with caution when it comes to sun exposure.
